Closed Captioning

All of our programs, including live events and original series episodes, are delivered with Closed Captions.  All of Showtime’s networks, including Showtime, The Movie Channel, and FLIX, operate under these guidelines, including our High Definition feeds as well as our Video On Demand and Showtime Anytime services.  We at SHOWTIME take great pride in offering this important feature to our customers.

If you are experiencing a Closed Captioning issue, we will need some specific information from you in order to investigate the problem.  First go back to the main page of the Help Center and click on “Submit A Question.”  Please provide us with answers to the following questions:

If you experienced the problem while watching a “regular” channel:

  • Please describe the problem in detail, including the program viewed, channel name and number, the date and time you experienced the problem, and whether you were watching in High or Standard Definition.  Please include the name of your television provider, as well as your City, State and Zip Code and make and model of your set-top box.

If you experienced the problem while watching On Demand:

  • Please describe the problem in detail, including the program viewed, On Demand channel name and number, the date and time you experienced the problem, and whether you were watching in High or Standard Definition. Please include the name of your television provider, as well as your City, State and Zip Code and make and model of your set-top box.

If you experienced the problem while watching Showtime Anytime:

  • Please describe the problem in detail, including the program viewed, date and time you experienced the problem, and whether you were streaming via the website, the app or through a device such as Roku or Amazon Fire TV. Please include the name of your television provider, as well as your City, State and Zip Code.

If you are experiencing the problem while watching a DVD:

  • Ensure that both your television set and DVD player menus are set to display captions, as the button on the remote will not be sufficient to turn the DVD’s Closed Captions on or off.  If you are still unable to receive Closed Captions, it is possible that your DVD player may not be compatible (older players are not compatible with some newer DVD versions).  If you are experiencing a defect with your DVD, you should contact the retailer from which you purchased the DVD.  If that retailer is unable to handle your return at this time, you might try contacting the DVD distributor directly for further assistance.  Paramount Home Entertainment can be reached at phe_customerservice@paramount.com.

To turn on/off Closed Captions on an iPhone or iPad:

  • Captions can be turned on or off by clicking the CC button in the upper right corner.  If this does not work, then go to your device “Settings.”  Select “General”, then “Accessibility”, then “Subtitles & Captioning” and toggle “Closed Captions + SDH” to “On” or “Off.”  After doing this, go back into the Showtime Anytime app and turn the CC button to on or off.
